Everton To Sign Smalling

It is believed that Everton might make a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling during the transfer window. It is believed that Jose Mourinho is interested to sign Tottenham Hotspurs defender Toby Alderweireld and as such might be prepared to let Smalling leave.

This will be a massive signing for Everton as they are desperate to strengthen their team for next season. Chris Smalling has been a regular player for Manchester United and has amassed a vast amount of experience by playing both in the Premier League as well as the Champions League.

Alderweireld will be out of contract at the end of next season and has so far rejected numerous contract extensions with Tottenham Hotspurs. The London team might want to sell him at the end of this season to avoid losing the player for free next season. Jose Mourinho is keen to seize the opportunity and sign a player that has been consistent for some time in the Premier League. However, this means that he will have to sell one defender and it is believed that Chris Smalling will be the one that will be making way for the arrival of the Belgium international.

Everton, in turn, will want to seize this opportunity and sign a player that will help bolster their team at the back. Everton has invested massively in offensive players this season and will feel that they will need to add some quality at the back if they want to challenge the big teams for a place in Europe. They will feel that Chris Smalling will be a good signing and help them achieve their objectives.  At the moment they have suffered from a lack of consistency in their results and will feel that with an improved defense they will become a much better team.
